Leather Sofa Stitching
Quality stitching (or lack thereof) can make or break a piece of furniture
Seams on high wear areas of leather sofas and chairs are prone to open up. The leather in many cases being stronger than the stitch thread, something has to give.
Seams stitching that fails cans be hand stitched. Leather seating areas can also be removed and machine stitched for extra strength.
We can replace failed stitching and re-stitch it very easily. In cases where the leather has failed along with the stitching (perforated), it may become necessary to replace the entire panel to ensure a true restoration and longevity. These replacement panels can be matched to the original and even age matched if your furniture has a trendy distressed look?
Decorative stitching, internal stitching, seams that have torn, split or frayed? We can most definitely help.
As leather furniture gets older stitching on hard wearing areas such as seat cushions can fail and open up.
If these areas of faulty stitching are caught in the early stages in many cases these can be hand stitched.
In many cases seat cushion covers are fixed to leather sofas and i’m not removable. So to hand stitch problematic areas on leather furniture is less costly than removing the fixed panel affected and machine stitching.
Either way to repair existing faulty stitching is far cheaper than replacing the entire sofa.
In many cases when seams on leather furniture open the leather can split and tear. If the leather has torn off from the seam line the panel can be replaced with a new leather panel however, this type of leather repair will be an option but would increase the cost of the leather restoration but still more cost-effective then replacing the leather sofa or chair.
As with many items which sustain wear and tear to address a problem quickly proves to be the best course of action having less impact on the pocket.
By sending us images (via email) of the damage which the leather furniture has endured we will be able to advise you on the best course of action for longevity and not just a temporary leather repair.
Whatever the requirements we can Hand stitch the leather seam, machine stitch the faulty leather or replace the leather panel with a recoloured leather replacement panel, matching the colour of the original precisely.
If the leather sofa seat cushion is fixed and needs to be removed it’s worth taking into account the condition of the seat foam interior. If the seat cushion needs to be replaced it would be practical and cost-effective to replace any faulty foam cushioning while the furniture is already stripped down.
We can advise you on all aspects of restoration on the time of inspection, Whether this be leather Recolouring, replacement foam cushioning, stitching or leather cleaning and leather care.
Individual prices can be given for each leather service advised. There is no obligation, just an honest evaluation of the condition of your leather furniture.
